Ciara Charteris

Blouse by PREEN LINE.

What is your oldest possession?
My parents bought me this beautiful dress from a designer in Cape Town called Balu for my second birthday and I love it so much I’ve kept it and I hope to one day give to my own daughter, if I’m lucky enough.

Have you had any jobs that you wish had lasted even longer?
Every job is an exciting and invigorating experience that in the moment you never want to end!

What film in your opinion would be a terrible candidate for a reboot or remake?
Unashamedly Dirty Dancing is one of my all time favourite movies, so I don’t think I would ever want to watch another version of it.

Which department in film other than your own would you be the best and/ or worst at ?
I do have a big love and fascination for the business side of the industry, it’s kind of a mini hobby of mine. As for worst, probably working the boom, I’m quite small and you have to have a hell of a lot of arm strength! So I think I would just end up knocking people out with it!

In addition to Poldark, audiences can see you as Percy Shelley’s first wife Harriet in the film Mary Shelley. Shelley famously wrote Frankenstein in 1816 during the ‘year without a summer’ that was caused by a volcanic winter event. What negative or unfavourable circumstances do you believe may have contributed small or large to your creativity?
I was always a little bit of an outsider at school, I was quite self-excluded from all the fun teen stuff that went on growing up, but it worked for me because I threw myself into my performing, dance training, National Youth Music Theatre and the other things that helped me get to where I am today.

Ciara Charteris can be seen in Mary Shelley, in theatres now and in Poldark on BBC iPlayer (UK).
